Brazilian football legend Pele taken time to congratulate Argentina on their World Cup qualification, which was achieved on Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Uruguay, insisting that the finals need to have Diego Maradona's team involved.

"I wasn't against Argentina. They are my friends," Pele was quoted as saying by TV Globo. "I said before the match that a World Cup without Argentina would not be the same.

"It's good for Maradona that Argentina qualified. For those who love football, Argentina could not be out of the World Cup."

The relationship between Pele and Maradona has had its fair share of attention in the press, as both legends have hit out at each other more than once in the past. However, Maradona will be pleased to hear Pele's most recent comments.
