Argentina Scored And That Was It - Uruguay Coach Oscar Tabarez

The coach didn´t rate the quality of the game very highly...

Oscar Washington Tabarez - Uruguay
Oscar Washington Tabarez, the coach of Uruguay, affirmed that both his side and Argentina played poorly, and their goal was the only difference on the night.

"We can´t talk about who deserved what. Argentina scored a goal and that was it. Our game plan didn´t work out. The strategy was to surprise them down the flanks. We couldn´t do this. They never lost patience and they took advantage of the technical ability of their players," said Tabarez.

Tabarez didn´t look for any excuses after his team´s loss to Argentina at the Centenario stadium on Wednesday. Uruguay will go on to face Costa Rica in a two-legged playoff for a place in South Africa.

"We both played poorly," stated Tabarez, when referring to the display of Diego Maradona´s side, as well as that of his side.

He continued, "the match was very closed. Argentina played well defensively, and we worked hard to pressure them."

But Tabarez is still confident that Uruguay will qualify for the World Cup, via the playoff.

"It was the first time that we were presented with the opportunity to qualify directly for the World Cup. Sometimes certain circumstances repeat themselves. It isn´t only because of the coaches and the players...we never gave up fifth-place.
