Yeah I'm The Topscorer For Arsenal: Thomas Vermaelen Celebrates His Fourth Goal For Gunners This Season (PA)
New Belgium coach Dick Advocaat has appointed highly rated defender Thomas Vermaelen as the nation's new skipper in the buildup toward the World Cup qualifier against Turkey.

The Red Devils were in need of a new captain after Advocaat axed previous skipper Timmy Simons from his squad. The latter has lost his spot in the starting XI at his club PSV and is not a part of Advocaat's plans for Belgium any longer.

Bayern Munich defender Daniel van Buyten was also a candidate to be named as the squad's captain, but Vermaelen eventually got the nod because of his relative young age and the longer career the Arsenal star has ahead of him.

Vermaelen is no stranger to captaining his team. The young defender was Ajax's skipper before he left the Amsterdam powerhouse for Arsenal this summer.
