thumbnail Hello,

The 33-year-old was red carded in a friendly on Thursday and feels he let his team-mates and coach down on the night

Hugo Campagnaro says he "ruined it all" after being sent off in Inter's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The centre-back, who joined the Nerazzurri from Napoli earlier this summer, was red carded in the second half of Thursday’s International Champions Cup loss and has acknowledged he hurt his team in the process.

“I played well in the first half, but then I went and ruined it all in the second when I lost it for a second,” the 33-year-old told Inter Channel.

“We have to take the positives because the signs are promising. Oscar scored a magnificent goal and all you can do is give him the credit. Perhaps we did something wrong in the build-up, because you can’t find yourself three on three like that.

“We have to keep improving, working out what we’re doing wrong and fixing it. We’ve got some tough games coming up and we must aim to do better.

“We managed to limit Chelsea to just a few shots on goal. Unfortunately they scored with their first chance. It knocked us back a bit because we’d got off to a good start and the first half could even have finished 2-1.”

Fellow Inter defender Alvaro Pereira then spoke about new coach Walter Mazzarri’s system and the additional responsibility he will now have in the Nerazzurri's new-look system.

He added: “[Mazzarri asking for a lot from his wing-backs] is something that motivates me and gives me responsibility. Over the last 27 years, being a footballer has taught me something new every day, as a person too. That’s why I’m always willing to listen, I want to do what the coach asks of me and give 100% to achieve it.

“Having such big games helps us because, first and foremost as a team, we need to get to grips with the system the coach wants us to play. We need to remember that you always play to win, be it a friendly, a league match or any other for that matter, even in a short training game.

"This has to be the team’s mentality, we need to get used to winning, even with a scrappy goal, because one victory leads to another. Am I confident about this season? I’m the first to criticise myself when I know I’ve not performed well, but last season is behind us and we look forward.”
