The 29-year-old Argentina international joined the club from Manchester City earlier this summer and was very complimentary of the Italian when he was officially unveiled.
Del Piero now wants Tevez to treasure his former shirt.
“I thank Tevez for his kind words about me at his official unveiling,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia on Friday.
“I hope that he wears the No.10 shirt with love.”
Del Piero also believes his old side remain hot favourites to retain their crown, as well as mount a serious Champions League challenge.
He added: “Juventus are favourites in Serie A and they will be very competitive in the Champions League."
Del Piero played for Juventus between 1993 and 2012, scoring 290 goals in 705 appearances for the club. He is regarded as one of the greatest players in their history.
The 38-year-old also won 91 caps for Italy, scoring 27 times.
