The Frenchman will take over at Stadio Olimpico next season after his arrival was officially announced on Wednesday

Rudi Garcia has signed a two-year contract to become the new coach of Roma.

The former Lille boss joined the Stadio Olimpico side on Wednesday following the departure of Aurelio Andreazzoli.

The 49-year-old had been widely expected to be announced as the new coach and the club president James Pallotta revealed his delight after confirming Garcia’s arrival.

“We are very excited and confident that Rudi Garcia is the right coach for AS Roma,” Pallotta told the club’s official website.

“He is a proven winner with a great football mind who we believe fits in perfectly with our vision for the future.”

Club CEO Italo Zanzi echoed the president’s comments and feels that Garcia will provide the club with a solid basis for growth in Serie A next season.

“[Garcia] will continue to develop our existing talent base while giving us the best opportunity to win now. We are looking forward to this season more than ever,” said Zanzi.

Former coach Andreazzoli had only taken over from Zdenek Zeman in February but the Rome outfit eventually finished sixth in Serie A, 10 points off a Champions League place.
