Amelia: Milan determined to hold on to third place

The former Livorno goalkeeper is looking forward to a run in the Milan side and securing Champions League football
Marco Amelia believes AC Milan have a tough fight to hold on to third place in Serie A, but he is confident the Rossoneri can thwart an energised Fiorentina side who lie only a point behind.

Amelia, is likely again to replace the injured Christian Abbiati against Catania this weekend after the veteran stopper suffered a calf injury against Juventus.

The goalkeeper is not too downbeat regarding last week’s defeat to the Bianconeri and believes there is plenty to look forward to in the remaining games.

“We could certainly do better, but I always try to be positive even though in the match against Fiorentina we wasted a wonderful opportunity to earn a victory. Now we have to defend at all costs our third place, we are very motivated,” he told Milan Channel.

“Against Catania we must have the right motivation to match Fiorentina, starting with three points this weekend that will be really important.”

Amelia is confident their attacking options can lead to success, especially the contribution of their star striker.

He added; “With [Mario] Balotelli, we have a very strong offensive potential, but he's a champion. In this final part of the season we will have to give take each game as it comes."

Milan currently trail second-placed Napoli by seven points who currently occupy the remaining automatic Champion League position.
