Petkovic: Lazio are Scudetto contenders
By Stefan Coerts
09-Feb-2013 6:10:00 PM
The 49-year-old is optimistic about his side's title chances as he feels they have what it takes to compete for top honours alongside league leaders Juventus
Vladimir Petkovic has claimed that Lazio have the quality to challenge Juventus and Napoli for the Serie A title ahead of this weekend's match against the Partenopei. The Stadio Olimpico outfit currently sit third in the league table, trailing the Bianconeri by nine points, but their coach is adamant that the title is not out of the capital club's reach just yet.
"Everybody sees Napoli as Juventus' main rivals in the title race, but we want to show that we are more than just the third-placed team in the table," Petkovic said at a press conference.
"A lot of people say that Juventus and Napoli are the only Scudetto candidates, but Lazio are in the race for the title as well.
"Napoli are a strong team, but we do not fear them."
Saturday's match against Walter Mazzarri's men kicks off at 20:45CET.
