AC Milan just had a bad night - Amelia backs his team after Roma defeat
The Rossoneri goalkeeper refused to concede the fight for the championship, despite seeing his side lose in Rome, and stressed the need for his team to remain mentally tough
Marco Amelia has insisted that AC Milan can take some positives from their performance despite losing 4-2 to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi took a 4-0 lead as Erik Lamela scored twice after contributions from Nicolas Burdisso and Pablo Osvaldo, with the visitors only managing to reply late on through Giampaolo Pazzini and Bojan. Though the defeat leaves the Rossoneri in seventh, five points behind Roma, Amelia remained positive about his side's display.
"It is not that there is something that does not work [at AC Milan]," the 30-year-old Italian told Sky Sports after the game.
"Burdisso and Osvaldo were very good. As was Lamela. We'll need to review some of the dead-ball situations, corners and penalties. We'll be back in 2013."
Milan had won four in a row before meeting Roma and Amelia stressed that his team need to deal with the pressure when they enter the second half of the season.
"This defeat has to create a psychological situation to overcome," the former Genoa goalkeeper added.
"In the dressing room we point out errors, even if sometimes it is not easy to tell someone who has made a mistake. When you commit errors against the big teams, you are punished immediately.
"I sincerely hope it's just a bad night. I think that today's Milan was the one of the last month and a half, the one against Napoli and Juventus.
"We are growing," he concluded.
