Baggio slams Italy hierarchy over coaching proposal snub

The former Juventus star, now a technical official within the Italian Football Federation, is aggrieved at the long wait for a response to his grand plan

Roberto Baggio has spoken of his frustration at the slow implementation of his recommendations on how to revolutionise the way coaches are taught in Italy.

The former Ballon d'Or winner, now president of the technical sector of the governing body of Italian football, claims to have waited almost a year for his project to be acted upon.

Baggio was tasked with creating a new blueprint for Italian coaching after the Azzurri's disastrous first round exit from the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

"In December last year the project I was working on, on the training of coaches, was delivered to the federation," Baggio told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The funds have been allocated but so far there has only been one successful initiative, a well-attended course in Tuscany that was free and well attended by clubs from Pisa and Pontedera.

"Since then, nothing," the former Inter and Fiorentina striker added.

Despite the setback, Baggio claimed the national team was "improving" under Cesare Prandelli, despite the "pressure that is always there".

Italy secured an impressive 3-1 victory over Denmark in World Cup qualifying this week.
