Roma's Pjanic: I would love to become our equivalent of Barcelona's Xavi

The former Olympique Lyonnais midfielder is relishing the opportunity to feature in a similar role to that which the Spaniard occupies at Camp Nou

Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic has stated that he would like to play a similar role for the Giallorossi as Spain international Xavi occupies for Barcelona.

The 21-year-old, who moved to Rome at the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign, has featured in a more withdrawn role than he is used to in recent weeks.

And he has made it clear that he is thoroughly enjoying the change, as it has meant that he is now more involved in the game.

"I do not know whether I am more like Xavi in my current role. I just do my best. I would love to play like him," Pjanic was quoted as saying by Il Messaggero.

"I always want to be at the heart of the game, and want to touch the ball a lot. The position I'm currently playing in is my favourite.

"I have played on the right wing for Bosnia & Herzegovina in a 4-2-3-1 [formation]. I accept playing there, but it's not where I am at my best."

Pjanic has scored three goals and provided six assists in 23 Serie A appearances for Roma this term.
