Dino Zoff: Fabio Capello was right to quit England

The former Italy goalkeeper is in no doubt that his compatriot would have carefully considered his position before eventually severing his ties with the Football Association

Dino Zoff
Dino Zoff believes that Fabio Capello made the right decision in sensationally resigning as England manager on Wednesday evening.

Capello had been left infuriated by the Football Association's decision to strip John Terry of the captaincy of the national team without first consulting him and, consequently, the former Juventus and AC Milan coach decided to walk away from his post just four months before the start of Euro 2012.
CAPELLO RESIGNS

The news created shockwaves across Europe but, given the circumstances, Zoff is not at all surprised that Capello opted to fall on his sword.

“It was his decision,” the former Italy goalkeeper told Itasportpress. “I think the conditions he found himself in were the reason he resigned.

“I expect he made all the considerations and did the right thing.

"Naturally, I don’t know the details, but I believe he made the right decision."

Capello has already been linked with a return to Italian football, though Inter have already moved to deny speculation that they have lined the former Real Madrid boss up to replace current coach Claudio Ranieri at the end of the season.
