AC Milan interested in signing Benfica's Javi Garcia - report

The Rossoneri have reportedly identified the Spaniard as the man to inject freshness into their midfield, after being criticised for a lack of dynamism in the middle of the park

AC Milan have made Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia a transfer target for the summer, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

The publication reports that the Serie A champions have lined up the former Real Madrid youth product as the man to solve their midfield woes, which has been noted for a lack of fluidity, with the likes of Mark van Bommel and Massimo Ambrosini reaching the twilight of their careers.

However, any deal for Javi Garcia will not come cheap, as it is understood the Eagles will demand a fee of around 25 million for the holding player, who is also a reported target for Bayern Munich, as well as two unnamed English clubs.

Javi Garcia, who has developed into a key player for Benfica since his €7 million arrival from Real Madrid in 2009, is under contract with the Portuguese giants until 2014, and has a release clause set at €30 million.

Milan hope to put their wrongs against Juventus in the Coppa Italia right with a trip to Serie A rivals Udinese on Saturday.
