Juventus Planning Zhirkov Swoop For January?
Juventus have constantly been linked with a move for Yuri Zhirkov as Pavel Nedved's replacement, but the latest reports indicate the Russian could arrive as early as January...
Juventus officials recently denied any move will be made during the winter transfer window, but rumours persist nonetheless that the Bianconceri may have a player acquistion or two up their sleeve.
According to Datasport, Juventus woud like to bring in Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow as soon as possible. The 25-year-old was recently named the best player in the Russian league and has been a hot property ever since his exploits in Euro 2008.
CSKA are looking to cash in on the player, sooner rather than later, and Juventus will acquire Zhirkov immediately if the opportunity presents itself.
Some believe that when Juve president, Giovanni Cobolli Gigli explained there would be no winter signings, he was referring to the Udinese trio of Cristian Zapata, Gaetano D'Agostino and Gokhan Inler. Gigli has just come from a meeting with Zebrette sporting director Pietro Leonardi after making those statements.
Juventus sit in second place in Serie A at the moment, six points behind Inter. The Bianconeri have had to deal with several injuries this season, especially in midfield, so Zhirkov would certainly be a welcome addition to the squad.
