Puyol: I found out who my real friends are

The experienced defender is happy to leave 2013 behind him as a string of injuries kept him sidelined throughout the year
Barcelona defender Carles Puyol has admitted that 2013 was a difficult year for him as unrelenting injury problems kept him out of action.

The 35-year-old has made only three appearances in La Liga so far this term due to injury after previously missing the final months of the 2012-13 campaign.

And the Barca skipper says his spell on the sidelines was quite tough for him.

"2013 has been a very tough year in which I’ve learned a lot and found out who my real friends are," Puyol stated on his official Twitter account.

"Happy and healthy 2014!"

Puyol will be looking to get regular first-team football in the second half of the season again as Barcelona aim to retain their Liga title.

The Catalans currently sit atop of the table with 46 points from 17 games, sharing top spot with Atletico Madrid.
