Ancelotti: Real Madrid must improve

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss has urged his men to step up their game and has commended Cristiano Ronaldo's professionalism

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted that the Santiago Bernabeu side must improve if they are to be successful this season.

The Blancos were held to a 2-2 draw by Villarreal last weekend, while they struggled in the opening 45 minutes of their Champions League win over Galatasaray in midweek, and Ancelotti has told his men they must step performances up a notch.

"The opening stages of the games against Villarreal and Galatasaray were not good enough," the Italian coach said at a press conference on Saturday.

"We must improve against Getafe on Sunday. We will have to put in an intense performance right from the start."

Ancelotti then went on to commend Cristiano Ronaldo's professionalism in the wake of his hat-trick against Galatasaray, following on from his bumper contract renewal.

"Cristiano is a fantastic professional. He's always focused in training and eager to improve.

"He prepares himself very well before the games and always looks after himself after the matches."
