Jonathan dos Santos says that Barcelona must ignore the hype surrounding Real Madrid and their summer signings and focus solely on themselves ahead of the start of their Liga defence.
The Blaugrana romped to the title last year, finishing 15 points clears of their great rivals from the Spanish capital, but many pundits believe that los Blancos are much better equipped to challenge this time around after the summer arrivals of Isco, Asier Illarramendi and coach Carlo Ancelotti.
However, while Dos Santos acknowledges that Madrid have enjoyed a productive summer, he feels that the champions need only worry about their own squad.
“We shouldn’t focus on Real Madrid," the Mexico international told the Catalan club's official website.
"They have a great team and they’ve signed good players, but we have to focus on ourselves.
"I’m sure it will be another season of great rivalry.”
On a personal level, Dos Santos is confident that he will see more game time this season under new coach Gerardo Martino, revealing that he had considered leaving for Real Sociedad until the Blaugrana's new boss convinced him to remain at Camp Nou.
"The fact that 'Tata' said that he wanted me to stay, that he has confidence in me, was key," the midfielder explained. "I hope to have a better season than last year.
“Tata sees me more as an interior player, a player who can attack and move the team. I can help the team when we go forward and also defensively.
“So, I hope to have more minutes than I had last season, as I want to show what kind of player I am. I expect to help the team as much as possible."
Dos Santos made just three appearances for Barcelona during the 2012-13 campaign.
