The Barcelona boss says a decision has yet to be taken over a new deal for the Frenchman and says he would have no objections to the goalkeeper staying another year
The Frenchman returned to the first team recently after missing more than a year thanks to a liver transplant, but has an expiring contract with the Catalans, while the goalkeeper made his intention to leave Camp Nou once his current deal expires in 2014 clear back in January.
"Abidal's renewal is a very special situation. We do not know yet how he will recover if there are games every three days," Vilanova said at a press conference.
"For me, it wouldn't be a problem if Victor wants to continue another season. I didn't talk to him, but his decision was clear."
Barca take on Athletic Bilbao at San Mames at 18:00CET on Saturday.
