Gago happy at Velez Sarsfield move despite supporting Boca Juniors
The midfielder has spoken out after completing his loan move from Valencia to the Torneo Inicial champions until the end of the season
Fernando Gago says he believes he has made the right choice after joining Argentine side Velez Sarsfield on a six-month loan from Valencia, despite being a boyhood Boca Juniors fan.The defensive midfielder had been linked with a return to boyhood club Boca Juniors after reportedly becoming unhappy with Valencia's sacking of coach Mauricio Pellegrino.
However, it was El Fortin, who last month won Argentina's Torneo Inicial, that ultimately won the race for his signature.
"Of all the options I had - Europe, Brazil and many sides - I chose Velez because I thought it was the best," the 26-year-old told reporters.
"Boca has always been my home. Since I was tiny I have been a fan of the club.
"I won many things there and enjoyed [my time there]. But four days ago was a different situation and Boca [already] has three re-inforcements," he added.
