Real Murcia's Matilla sees red after foul-mouthed tirade against referee

The on-loan Real Betis midfielder had to be restrained by his team-mates when he launched an obscenity-laden blast towards the official after his side conceded a late penalty

Real Murcia's Javier Matilla was dismissed after the final whistle of his side's Liga Adelante game against Sabadell after an expletive-ridden rant towards referee Vazquez Figueroa.

The 24-year-old Spaniard was incensed when the official awarded a 92nd minute penalty to the hosts and delivered an astonishing verbal attack, earning himself a straight red card in the process.

Writing in his post-match report, Figueroa described the incident in detail.

"The number 10, Javier Magro Matilla, was dismissed after the game whilst we were still on the field by addressing me loudly in the following terms: 'I s*** on your w**** mother,'" the Andalucian referee noted.

"He addressed me once again saying, 'You son of a b****. I'll kill you. I s*** on your dead relatives', repeating this three times and had to be held back by several colleagues because his attitude was still aggressive."

According to Spanish Football Federation rules, Matilla, who has scored five times in 16 appearances since joining Murcia on loan in the summer, could be subject to a ban of up to 12 matches.

The injury time penalty allowed Sabadell to claim a 2-2 draw and leaves them in eighth position in Spain's second tier, one place ahead of Murcia.
