Simeone laments derby defeat to Real Madrid

The Argentine trainer was unhappy with the manner of his side's loss in the Spanish capital derby, but vowed to do everything in his powers to help the team bounce back
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has expressed his disappointment after his side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to rivals Real Madrid on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo's 16th-minute free-kick opened the scoring for Jose Mourinho's men, before Mesut Ozil's strike midway through the second half sealed victory in an otherwise dire derby.

"We could not win, we will continue looking for the opportunity to win in the next game," the Argentine trainer said at the post-match press conference.

"With the inclusion of two strikers, Diego Costa looked 'profundidad' [able to manipulate spaces with movement]. In the first half, there were opportunities, but we just missed something when it mattered.

"Until Madrid's goal, the team was doing well. After that, it was more difficult and now the squad is hurt. We will work from Monday to seal qualification in Europe."

Atletico travel to the Czech Republic to face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
