'Barcelona create art' - Thuram lauds former club

The World Cup winner favours the Catalan side for the wonderful football they encourage, stressing the importance of always being positive on the pitch
Former international centre-back Lillian Thuram has praised Barcelona for playing in an attractive manner that gives the game a great image worldwide.

The Blaugrana currently sit top of La Liga with seven wins and one draw, with Tito Vilanova following in the footsteps of previous coach Pep Guardiola and retaining the same footballing blueprint and playing philosophy.

Retired French centre-half Thuram remains impressed with the club's attitude and has likened the displays Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi produce to artwork.

"The Barca game appeals to everyone because when you look at it, it is art," the Juventus legend told Sport.es.

"For me, football is an art, like those artists who do contemporary shows. In addition to this, the club gives a good image of football and that's important.

Despite his admiration, he was quick to play down the suggestion that he believed Barca are the best in the world purely due to the titles they've won.

"For many, the best is the one that earns it the most, but I like the club because when you watch a game, you think it's really football, it's a game."
