Markel Susaeta commits future to Athletic Bilbao
The Basques' winger has signed a new deal which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2017 while also having a buyout clause of €35 million in his new contract
Markel Susaeta has signed a new four-year contract extension with Athletic Bilbao which will see him at the club until June 30 2017.With the 24-year-old's previous deal set to expire in 2013, potential suitors had been alerted to his availability with Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson admitting an interest in the talented winger.
But on Monday, the Northerners have revealed that Susaeta has signed an extension.
The Basque winger has spent his entire career in Spain's northern-most region and has been a part of Athletic Bilbao since 2006, making over 60 appearances last season.
Numerous clubs have asked Athletic about the availability of their young forward, but the club had been holding out in the hope he would choose to stay with his boyhood club.
That patience and discipline paid off as one of La Liga's top wingers has committed his future to the side.
Susaeta's new buyout clause is set at €35 million.
