Messi delighted with 'tough' Supercopa victory over Real Madrid

The Argentine forward admitted the match against the Blancos was difficult, but was nonetheless satisfied with the result, while he failed to comment on Valdes' costly mistake

Lionel Messi has declared himself pleased at Barcelona beating Real Madrid in the first leg of the Supercopa on Thursday evening.

The record-breaking forward scored a 70th-minute penalty to help the Blaugrana secure a 3-2 win over Jose Mourinho's side at Camp Nou, and he was in high spirits when addressing the result.

“The match was like all Barca – Madrid matches, it was tough, but we knew we could do it,” he told fans on his Facebook page. “We are very happy with the result. ”

However, Messi refused to comment on the mistake by Victor Valdes that gifted Angel Di Maria a late strike, as the two teams reconvene in Madrid on Wednesday for the second leg.

Tito Vilanova's side, meanwhile, travel to Osasuna on Sunday for their second league game of the season.
