Godin dismisses Atletico exit rumours
The 26-year-old has brushed off speculation linking him with a move away from Los Colchoneros in the current transfer window, and is looking forward to the upcoming season
Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has moved to categorically refute reports that he is looking to leave the club this summer. The Uruguay international was a pivotal member of the Atletico squad that won the Europa League last season, making 41 appearances in all competitions.
His performances led to reports that he had attracted the attention of both Chelsea and Manchester City, but he insists that he is not interested in leaving the capital club, and is gearing up for new season.
"I wish to stay," he told Marca. "Adrian and Radamel Falcao are here too and like me they hope to continue here.
"The European Super Cup is the ultimate goal we have in the short term, because it's another title and offers prestige in Europe. We are privileged to be taking part.
"We will be ambitious but organised too. By doing that we will start earning points and hopefully achieve our main objective of Champions League qualification."
Atletico's first La Liga match of the new season is on August 18 away to Levante.
