The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is viewed as a replacement for fellow Turkey international Emre Belozoglu, who left for Atletico Madrid at the end of MayFenerbahce have confirmed that they are in talks with Valencia over the signing of Mehmet Topal.
The Turkey international was first linked with a move to the Sukru Saracoglu in May and the Super Lig outfit announced on Thursday that they have made an official approach for the player.
"Negotiations have begun over the transfer of Valencia's Mehmet Topal," Fenerbahce informed the Turkish stock exchange.
According to NTV Spor, Fenerbahce will pay approximately €4.5 million for the 26-year-old defensive midfielder, who expects the deal to go through imminently.
"Everything is going well," Mehmet told DHA. "The two parties will reach an agreement soon, and I will sign a contract soon."
Fenerbahce are looking to reinforce their midfield following the departure of Emre Belozoglu to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.
