Real Madrid defeat Kuwait national team 2-0 in friendly

The Spanish champions fielded a strong line-up for the contest and dominated proceedings, as the club strengthened its ties with the Gulf region
Spanish champions Real Madrid have defeated the Kuwait national team 2-0 in a friendly at a packed Al-Kuwait Sports Club stadium in Kaifan on Wednesday evening.Angel Di Maria opened the scoring on 26 minutes with a powerful drive, before Cristiano Ronaldo added the second with a close-range header on 31 minutes.
Kuwait had few opportunities to score as Real dominated, and the host's best chance came when Walid Ali charged in on goal but Iker Casillas denied him.
The Spanish giants had taken a full-strength side to Kuwait for the contest with boss Jose Mourinho stating ahead of the game they'd play to "honour their names and the prestige of Real Madrid".
The game was played under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah while several Kuwaiti dignitaries were in attendance for the friendly which Real were reportedly given a €3 million appearance fee for.
The friendly strengthens ties between Real Madrid and the Gulf region, where only a few months ago the Spanish outfit announced the construction of a ‘sportainment’ resort complex on an artificial island in UAE.
