Guardiola: I can’t be jealous of Messi, he has helped me improve

The 41-year-old insists he has no envy towards the Argentina star and has revealed that the striker has made him a better coach over the past four seasons at Camp Nou
Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has taken the time to praise Lionel Messi, insisting that the Argentine has helped him improve as a trainer.

The prolific attacker netted four times to help Barca to a 4-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday, and has now scored 50 goals in 36 league appearances this term.

"Leo has captured the limelight all season, I can’t be jealous. Expect him to keep on doing it in the future. I’ve tried to help him as much as I can, and he’s helped me improve and become a recognisable manager," Guardiola was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

Messi celebrated his fourth goal by hugging Guardiola on the touchline, and the coach appreciated the gesture.

"I’m grateful to Leo for doing that. I’ve received a lot of love from the players this whole time, within the demands that unite us. I love them a lot and that’s what we have left."

Barcelona play their final Primera Division game on May 13 against Betis, before taking on Athletic Bilbao in the final of the Copa del Rey on May 25.
