Atletico Madrid Dominated Chelsea In Champions League - Sergio Asenjo
Pundits and fans may have been buoyed by Atletico's draw with Chelsea, but the 'keeper feels that los Colchoneros should have won...
Los Colchoneros shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw with the Blues on Tuesday evening in Vicente Calderon, but the Spain Under-21 goalkeeper felt his side did enough to win.
If games were decided on the number of opportunities, Asenjo believes that Atletico would have won comfortably.
"The team was up to the challenge against Chelsea and we dominated the entire encounter, enjoying lots of chances," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.
"If we play this well, the team will climb out of this situation in which we find ourselves.”
Atletico take on neighbours Real Madrid at the weekend and Asenjo feels that the performance against Chelsea could be the moment in the season when his side's form changes for the better.
“This good game was a turning point in our work. Now we’re going to face a complicated match in the derby, but we now have the feeling that we’re doing a good job," he added.
