The Belgian has scored nine times in 15 games for the Toffees since joining on loan from Chelsea, and is now looking to help his adopted side qualify for the Champions League

Romelu Lukaku has urged Everton to be more ruthless in their quest for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

The Belgian has scored nine times in 15 appearances for the Toffee since joining on loan from Chelsea in the summer, including the winner in Sunday's 2-1 win over Southampton.

Despite currently sitting fourth, a point ahead of rivals Liverpool, Lukaku believes Everton need to become stronger in the second half of the season.

"I think we are showing great consistency in our performances and mentally we are very strong," the striker told The Guardian.

"But becoming more ruthless is what we have to work on in the second half of the season. If we are more ruthless then we will definitely end up in the top four.

"In the games we drew we weren't ruthless enough, so if you change that and become more ruthless then it becomes more wins, less draws and you are up there, definitely."

"At the start of the season we were building. Firstly, on the defence and then the midfield, and now that is all set up very well and we are working on the offensive set up. Sooner or later it will show.”

Lukaku came off the bench is Chelsea’s opening two Premier League fixtures before making the season-long move to Everton on deadline day, and the striker is delighted with the switch.

He continued: "I knew from the first day that I arrived on the training ground. I called my agent and dad and I said: 'We did something very good.' Because the quality is here. Chelsea were top but Everton are getting there.

"There is not a lot of difference and that is why I think I made a good choice. I am still at a high level and that is good for my development as a young player."
