The Chelsea star admits he has competition for a place on the plane to Brazil with the likes of captain Steven Gerrard, Jack Wilshere, Michael Carrick and youngster Ross Barkley all also gunning for a tournament berth.
He told reporters: "I'm not silly. I understand that I'm in a dogfight to get into the squad and I can see the young players coming into the squad and pushing me.
"I understand that, no matter what age you are, you have to react. You have to worry about yourself and perform as well as you can. If you end up looking around at others, wondering who's performing better, you take your eye off the ball.

"The rest is up to me and I'm very determined to meet the challenge that's facing me."
Lampard, though, is just looking to perform well for Chelsea and hope that his displays are enough to convince Roy Hodgson that he can be an asset in Brazil, agreeing his previous caps should not be taken into account.
He continued: "If your form isn't good enough in the next six or seven months until our season finishes...we all have to be on top form. I don't think it should be any other way.
"If I walked around thinking my 103 caps would get me on the plane, I'd probably be on the beach because that means you're taking things for granted. I don't think any of us can afford to do that."
