The captain promises a return to form in the Capital One Cup when the Magpies host Leeds United, after a 3-2 defeat at home on Saturday ended their three-game unbeaten run
Fabricio Coloccini has called on the Newcastle United squad to atone for their mistakes after twice losing the lead in a 3-2 loss to Hull City Tigers.Summer signing Loic Remy twice put the Magpies ahead before Sone Aluko’s 76th-minute volley saw the newly- promoted side take all three points.
The captain has bemoaned the loss of Newcastle' three-game unbeaten run, but aims to atone the defeat by beating Leeds United in the Capital One Cup.
"There were bad feelings after Hull - frustration, anger and everything you would expect,” Coloccini told The Chronicle. "But we have a game on Wednesday and we have to turn the page right now. We must look to the next game.
"If we want to be serious about being in the top 10 or look to bigger things or be a big team in the Premier League, we have to start to take the chances we have. If not, we are going to have problems.
"We do not want to be like we were last season. We ended the season fighting against relegation - we can't have that again, so we have to look at our mistakes and keep going.
"When we have chances to beat teams like Hull, we have to take them. We have to learn. Now we have to look to Leeds, get the win and go through in the Cup."
Remy, meanwhile, is confident Newcastle can continue climbing up the table despite the defeat on Saturday, but recognises that securing back-to-back wins in the cup and against Everton in the Premier League is a must.
"I'm happy with my goals but the most important thing is to win the game and we didn't do that," he added.
"We made too many mistakes and that was why we lost. We have a couple of games coming up this week and we need to be better.
"I think we have good quality in this team, we can finish near the top in this league," he added. "We have to win this type of game to have a chance of that though.
"It's a good team here. It's all about adapting to each other and I know that some of the players here all have quality. I know we have a good group.
"It is a responsibility for us to respond well. We have to go to Everton and win and we have to also win in the cup."
