Aston Villa striker Darren Bent says he is "gutted" after losing his No.9 shirt and being handed the No. 39 for next season.

The Villans have just released their squad numbers with Bent’s shirt number going to new signing Nicklas Helenius.

Meanwhile, fellow striker Christian Benteke retains his No.20 shirt while Andreas Weimann will wear No.10. New signing Jores Okore has been given the No.5 while another new-boy, Leandro Bacuna, will wear No.7.

The striker wrote on Twitter: "Gutted to lose my No 9 shirt. Unfortunately one of those things I have to deal with."

Bent is widely expected to leave Villa Park this summer after falling out of favour with manager Paul Lambert and dropping behind Benteke and Weimann in the pecking order, admitting in a recent YouTube that he expects to depart the club "pretty soon".

The striker made just 16 appearances for Villa in the Premier League last season, scoring three times.

Elsewhere Brad Guzan has been handed the No.1 shirt, Charles N’Zogbia will wear No.36 and Stiliyan Petrov's No.19 has been retired for a year.
