The former England manager says he expects the 50-year-old to bring in more signings this summer and strengthen the Blues, but warns the new manager he faces a challenge
The Blues have already signed Andre Schurrle this summer but, speaking to Goal, the former England manager says he expects more arrivals as the Portuguese strengthens his squad.
"I think he’s coming in at a time where that rebuild is continuing. If they’ve got money like that, Manchester City and Chelsea, they can rebuild every season. Whether that’s healthy is another thing that will only be shown in the results," he said.

Hoddle also believes Mourinho may have to change his approach slightly, due to the nature of the players he currently has at his disposal at Stamford Bridge.
"I’m intrigued whether he’ll make those changes in his philosophy. He’s got a system of players there that play with freedom in Oscar, Mata and Hazard. They’ve had immense flexibility and I’ve loved the way Chelsea have played at times, with one striker – whoever that might be – ahead of them," he added.
"That’s going to be a challenge for him, because it’s not really a system he would like to play. He plays a little more restricted than that. Their full backs always push high up the pitch, whereas he usually has them deeper.
"So is Mourinho going to change to the Chelsea way that they’re playing now or is he going to change Chelsea back into how he wants it done? That’s the intriguing thing for me this year, and I’ll be very interested to see which one he does.
"If he does one or the other the same scenario’s going to be there for him, win silverware. But he’ll do whatever he thinks is right to win football matches, I’m pretty sure of that."
