The midfielder is determined to turn his attention to captaining Germany at the European Under-21 Championship despite his frustration with the end of the Premier League campaign

Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby has admitted that his side's failure to finish in the top four of the Premier League was a "catastrophe" but will now turn his focus to the European Under-21 Championship.

Holtby will captain Germany in Israel and insists he will not allow his disappointment at club level affect his form on the international stage.

"That was a catastrophe for us," he told Kicker of Spurs' end to the 2012-13 campaign. "However, I can't let this bad mood affect die Mannschaft."

Germany's Under-21 side will begin its campaign against fierce rivals the Netherlands and Holtby saw the clash against their rivals as a chance to start the tournament in the best possible fashion.

"There's nothing more pleasant than beating Netherlands," he said. "To start off the tournament against our arch rivals is just fantastic. I want to lead the team to the title."
