The 22-year-old suffered several injuries this season but finished it with two goals in the last match of the campaign and aims to train over the summer to impress next year

Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has vowed to work hard over the summer and prove himself to supporters next season, having suffered from injuries for much of his first campaign with the club.

The 22-year-old joined City from Everton last summer for an initial fee of £12 million but was hit by a series of injuries in 2012-13 and made just six starts in all competitions.

The midfielder, however, finished the season on a high with two goals in City's final Premier League match against Norwich City and earned a call to the Roy Hodgson's England squad to face Brazil and the Republic of Ireland as cover for the withdrawn Manchester United youngster Tom Cleverley.

Rodwell intends to build on his strong return at the end of the season, telling reporters: "I have a lot to prove to City fans, as they haven't seen the best of me yet, so I'm excited about that.”

Despite his upcoming wedding in Australia, the Three Lions man promised to stick to his tailored fitness regime over the summer.

"I'll have to be getting up before the missus while I'm on honeymoon so I can get my work out of the way then enjoy the rest of the day," Rodwell explained.

"I'll be doing something most days, even the day before the wedding – I can't go back in rusty. It's a new chapter for me and coming back for pre-season will be a fresh start – almost like a new career."
