The Brazilian admitted the season has been hard with 68 games all in all, but believes the Europa League success and third-place finish shows the Blues can keep improving

Chelsea defender David Luiz has described the Blues' season as "amazing" but called on further focus next season as they look to mount a Premier League title challenge.

In a season involving 68 games in all competitions - with the Brazilian playing in 57 of those - Chelsea won the Europa League and secured a third-place finish.

Rafael Benitez's interim tenure is now over, with Goal exclusively revealing that former manager Jose Mourinho is set to return to Stamford Bridge, and Luiz is keen for Chelsea to keep up on progressing.

"When we change the coach the mentality needs to be the same," Luiz told the club's official website. "When you play for a big club you need to win games and titles, and we wait for the next coach and for him we want to win titles. This is a big club."

Luiz has admitted the season has been a struggle with early elimination from the Champions League - the first holders to do so - but added that if Chelsea are going to keep on moving up the table then the team must continue with the same focus next term.

"All the season was so difficult but when you can win one European title and qualify for the Champions League directly then it was amazing," he continued.

"The team we have has a great mentality. Sometimes you cannot win all the games but the team's experience is strong and we keep working every day. All my team-mates focus on winning because if you play for a big team you need to focus all the time.

"It has been a long season for Chelsea and for me and I am so tired now, but I love to play football. Sometimes I am tired but not just Chelsea, the Brazil national team as well have a great team so you can change some players to play some games.

"I enjoy every day, not just during the season. God gave me a fantastic life with my health first, with my family which is amazing and with a great job. I enjoy every day and of course I enjoy this season because Chelsea need to win trophies every year and I won one more trophy and qualified for the Champions League."
