The midfielder missed the 3-1 loss to Tottenham on Sunday with an ankle injury, while the Argentine was only fit enough for a place on the bench.
Edin Dzeko, a starter at White Hart Lane, is demoted to a place among the substitutes, along with James Milner and Matija Nastasic. Joleon Lescott replaces the young centre-back.
Meanwhile, Sam Allardyce keeps faith with the same XI that beat Wigan 2-0 last weekend.
