Miyaichi to undergo ankle surgery, Arsenal confirm
The Japan international will need to go under the knife to repair damaged ligaments after being stretchered off against Everton, a necessity lamented by Wigan boss Roberto Martinez
Wigan Athletic midfielder Ryo Miyaichi will require surgery to repair damaged ligaments in his ankle, parent club Arsenal have confirmed on their official website. The 20-year-old sustained the injury in FA Cup action for Wigan against Everton on Saturday, needing to be stretchered off after only 32 minutes on the pitch.
The Japan international will be sidelined for the rest of the season, and Latics manager Roberto Martinez has bemoaned the injury to the player.
“It’s a real shame that Ryo has suffered this injury after working so hard to regain his fitness following a setback earlier in the season,” Martinez told reporters.
“His professionalism and work ethic on a daily basis have always been superb and we’ll do everything we can to help him make a speedy recovery.”
