Cech: FA Cup comeback could kick-start Chelsea's season
The Blues goalkeeper believes his side's 2-2 draw in the FA Cup against Manchester United could help to push them on towards success as the season approaches its climax
Petr Cech believes Chelsea's 2-2 draw against Manchester United in the FA Cup could help to 'kick-start' their stuttering season. The Blues went 2-0 down after only 11 minutes to goals from Chicharito and Wayne Rooney, but fought back to earn themselves a replay at Stamford Bridge thanks to second-half goals from Eden Hazard and Ramires.
And given the nature of the comeback, Cech believes the result could be a pivotal turning point in Chelsea's campaign as they aim to secure a top-four finish and at least one of the two trophies they are still chasing.
"Given how the match went, this almost feels like a win," he posted on his personal website.
"I think we marked the club's [founding] anniversary in style. It was a really huge match to mark this important day and we are glad that we are still in the competition and in with a chance to win the trophy.
"After the half-time break we played very well and deserved to make it 2-2. Our substitutes had a great impact on the game, particularly Eden Hazard, who played fantastically.
"Eventually we even had a chance to win the game, but even though we couldn't take it we can still be satisfied. To be 2-0 down at United and make it 2-2 in the end is a success.
"We are still in the game and I believe that the second half performance will kick-start us."
