Everton forward Mirallas avoids lengthy layoff after hamstring scan

The talented Belgian has been in fine form since his €6.8m summer move to Goodison Park, and boss David Moyes will be relieved the 25-year-old's injury is not too serious

Everton forward Kevin Mirallas has avoided a potentially lengthy injury layoff after scans revealed he did not seriously injure his hamstring during his side's 2-1 win against Sunderland.

The Belgian limped off as David Moyes' side secured a win which leaves them fourth in the table, and there were concerns the 25-year-old could miss up to a month of football for the Toffees.

However, further scans revealed the damage is not too serious, and the £5.5 (€6.8m) million summer signing from Olympiakos should be fit to return against Norwich on November 24.

The injury does mean Mirallas will definitely miss Belgium's friendly with Romania on Wednesday night, and will remain on Merseyside to recuperate from the injury.

Mirallas lasted just 29 minutes against Martin O'Neill's side before succumbing to injury, but Moyes' men had enough determination to secure the win after going behind in the first half.

Adam Johnson opened the scoring for the visitors after 29 minutes, but the home side fought back with goals on 76 and 79 minutes by Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic respectively.

The Toffees now sit in a Champions League qualifying position with 20 points from 11 games, just seven behind league leaders Manchester United.

The forward has one goal and three assists in the Premier League so far this season, and turned in a fine display during his side's 2-2 derby draw with rivals Liverpool before being forced off at half-time with an injury.
