Sagna tips Jenkinson to become 'one of the best' for Arsenal
The France international expects the 20-year-old to prove serious competition for the first-team right-back spot after deputising during the former's injury lay-off
Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has tipped fellow full-back Carl Jenkinson to become one of the best right-backs in the world.
The promising defender, who joined from Charlton in 2011, deputised for the 29-year-old during his recovery from a broken leg and turned in some impressive performances during his twelve appearances.
However, with the Frenchman's return from injury, the two are set to battle it out for the sole first-team spot and Sagna is hoping the competition will bring the best out of both players.

"We always have the same battle and that is to fight for the shirt at Arsenal and bring the team to the top," the France international told the club’s official website.
"I am very happy for him because he did very well. For me it will push me to give the maximum game by game. I have the opportunity now so I will give the maximum. If he is playing then I will push him to become one of the best right-backs. And that is what he has the potential to be."
Despite holding one of the best defensive records in the Premier League, the north London club have faltered more recently and will be looking to get back to their early season form with a victory over Schalke in the Champions League.
"As a defender, it is never nice to concede goals," Sagna continued. "We know we have to improve defensively and offensively as well. That’s our target and we are working hard to do it.
"We are professional footballers and we want to finish first [in Group B]. We want to win the maximum amount of games. This is big challenge now to be the best in the group. But as players we always want to be the best. It would mean we play against a team who finish second in their group.
"But at this stage of the competition every team is good. So we have to keep focused on our team, keep going and keep working hard."
