The Feyenoord midfielder could become the Claret and Blues latest arrival, after their Scottish boss revealed that negotiations are under way for the Moroccan

Aston Villa hope to make Karim El Ahmadi their next signing after manager Paul Lambert optimistic of the two parties reaching a "positive conclusion".

The Feyenoord midfielder looks poised to join the Midlands club, with the Scot excited about the prospect of securing the 27-year-old's services for around €2.5 million (£2m).

"We're in talks at this moment, those talks are ongoing and we hope to reach a positive conclusion with Feyenoord and the player," Lambert told reporters.

"Karim is a player who I feel could definitely improve our squad. He has experience of big-club football and also at international level.

"He can pass the ball well and he could be an important player for us in central midfield."

El Ahmadi, a full Morocco international, joined Feyenoord from Twente for €5m (£4m) in 2008 and played a key role in the Rotterdam side's impressive second-placed finish last season.
