"Daniel's best position is a central striker" - Sturridge's father feels attacker's talents are being wasted on the wing

The father of Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge has encouraged Andre Villas-Boas to play the England international in a more central position, claiming his son's talent is wasted out wide.

Sturridge broke into the first team in 2009 but has only established himself as a regular for the Blues this campaign.

Yet his father has spoken of his displeasure in seeing his son operate from the wing, rather than as a central striker, despite the Blues' wealth of options up top.

“When Daniel plays in his natural position, which is a central striker, you will see maybe two or three times as much of the player that you see playing on the wings. He can show you a lot more,” he told the Express.

“In terms of potential, we have to see him play in that [central] position to see how far he can go.”

Sturridge, 22, has scored ten goals for Chelsea this season, including nine in the Premier League.

However the striker has been outspoken in the past about his desire to play centrally and, with England's European Championship campaign on the horizon, he is set to be unhappy with his current role.
