“Anyone who plays for England, especially in a World Cup year, is going to feel some pressure and there’s always that element – especially when you’re at home,” Crouch told ITV Sport.
“You just try and do your best and thankfully I did.”
Crouch stopped short of saying his impressive scoring record for the Three Lions meant he merited more starts for England, adding that he thought he’d given Fabio Capello a problem.
“That’s up to the manager, all I can do is when given the chance is try and take it,” said Crouch. “Hopefully I’ve given the manager something to think about tonight.”
Shaun Wright-Phillips also made an impact, grabbing a goal and an assist against the Egyptians, and Crouch said he appreciated the service he received from the Manchester City winger.
“[He was] very dangerous when he came on, gives you that option, he goes past the man and he’s got good quality as he proved for my second goal,” said Crouch. “It was a fantastic ball in and I know he’s got that quality.”
