Player Ratings: Chelsea 4-3 Bolton

Chelsea nearly gave up a four goal advantage to Bolton at Stamford Bridge in a spectacular contest. Goal.com rates the participants...

EPL: Michael Ballack, Chelsea - Bolton Wanderers (PA)
CHELSEA

Cech- 5.0:
He made some good saves, but also some questionable decisions during the match.

Ivanovic- 6.5:
Solid and full of confidence after his brace against Liverpool in midfield. He also knocked down the ball for Drogba's second that turned out to be the winner.

Terry- 6.0: Untested in the first 60 minutes, he was beaten in the air by Kevin Davies in the second half as Bolton nearly engineered a comeback.

Carvalho- 5.5: At times the Portuguese defender struggled to keep up with the pace of the game on his return to the line-up.

Cole- 7.0: Did not ever stop running down the left flank and came back on a number of occasions to take the ball away from Bolton's midfielders.

Mikel- 6.5: Did many of the simple things well. Bolton had to bypass him to get close to Chelsea goal.

Ballack- 7.5:
His short range passing game was excellent as he helped set up many attacks. Scored his first goal of the Premier League season and was also involved in the second.

Lampard- 7.0: Converted a penalty with ease to make it 3-0 and tried a couple of long range efforts. When he was in the match it was 4-0, when he left it Bolton scored three times.

Kalou- 6.5:
Grabbed one assist and you cannot fault him for his effort.

Drogba- 8.0:
His job is to score and that he did. He frustrated Hiddink by missing some early chances, however, he was in the right place at the right time to score two poacher's goals.

Malouda- 6.0:
The French winger drifted in and out of the proceedings, overall he lost his battle with Steinsson.

BOLTON

Jaaskelainen- 7.5:
He could do very little on any of the four goals. He got down well to make excellent saves on Malouda, Anelka and Lampard during the proceedings.

Steinsson- 7.5:
Perhaps Bolton's best player of the afternoon. He got well down the right to put in crosses and was unfortunate that a penalty was awarded against him for handball.

Cahill- 6.5:
Did extremely well in one-on-one confrontations and nearly scored an equalizer at the end as his shot went agonisingly wide of the post.

Shittu- 6.0: He came off with injury at half-time after putting in a decent shift.

Samuel- 5.0: Invisible; Kalou was able to make short work of him on a number of occasions, including the opening goal.

Muamba- 4.5: Hardly involved in the match. He never moved freely and was often outplayed by Chelsea's midfield.

McCann- 6.5: A fighter; he gave it his all in his attempts to win the ball for his side and tried to spark some counter attacks when he had the chance.

Gardner- 6.5: He was all over the pitch! One of the few Bolton players that always seemed to concern the Blues back-line.

Taylor- 6.0: Did very little besides grabbing Bolton's third goal. His side needed more from him.

Davies- 7.0: Eager to take any half chances that came his way, he beat the Chelsea central defenders in the air to set up two of the goals.

Elmander- 5.5: In his defence he was deprived of service during his time on the field, but besides a couple of spectacular efforts he was unable to make use of anything that came his way.
