Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is ready to take action against the 16 players who defied his wishes to organise a Christmas party in Dublin last week.

The trip is believed to have been organised by Robbie Keane, and Redknapp is about to strip the Irishman of the captain's armband at White Hart Lane for his part in the affair.

The players will also be fined with all the money going to charity, The London Evening Standard reports.

But Keane, who often leads the team in the absence of club captain Ledley King, can expect to be handed the armband no more after losing status in Redknapp's eyes.

The striker could also be set to leave the club entirely, with Celtic, Sunderland and Aston Villa rumoured to be interested in signing the Republic of Ireland international in January.

Redknapp has endured a difficult weekend despite his side winning 2-0 at Blackburn Rovers.

The 62-year-old is set to be charged by HM Revenue and Customs in relation to a private tax issue.
