Report: Manchester City Outraged By Referee Clattenburg's Half-Time Craig Bellamy Jibe
The match official has come under fire in the media for his baffling decision to send off Craig Bellamy for diving, with even Paul Robinson - the other man in the challenge - admitting that it was a harsh call.
Now, it has been alleged that the match official commented to the Sky Blues' bench at half-time: "How do you work with Craig Bellamy all week?"
The Welsh forward is known for his belligerence both on and off the pitch, and City manager Mark Hughes has hinted at his suspicion that the player's reputation may have coloured Clattenburg's decision-making.
"I don't appreciate when referees are going out in the second half and are passing comments on who they like and who they don't like in my team, which he did to my support staff," he is quoted as saying.
"He might have been having a laugh and a joke, but if that's in his head then possibly that might... I've got to be careful here because we're talking about integrity.
"We all have poor performances, it's just my opinion. I just thought on the day, I've seen Mark Clattenburg have a lot better games than he's had. We're all judged on our performances and there shouldn't be any issue with me commenting on the performance of a referee."
