Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger Talks Down Move For Wolfsburg Forward Edin Dzeko

Wolfsburg striker too expensive for Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger appears to be attempting to cool speculation linking Arsenal with Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko.

The Gunners boss is under pressure to replace the injured Robin van Persie but feels the price for the Bosnian player, whose goals helped his club win the Bundesliga for the first time, might be too high.

“I like the player,” Wenger admitted during a press conference. “But they fly too high right now, price-wise.”

The Frenchman also dismissed the possibility of bagging another of his targets during the January transfer window - Bordeaux's Moroccan international Marouane Chamakh.

“He is not available, their [Bordeaux's] chairman says that," Wenger said.

"They are top of their group in the Champions League. Why should they sell him now?"

Chamakh is out of contract at Bordeaux in the summer and would then be available on a free transfer.

That makes him, unlike Dzenko it seems, an affordable player for Wenger as anyone buying him before the summer wouldn’t be expected to pay much, but Wenger doesn’t expect Bordeaux to let him go mid-season.

"They will not get a lot of money," said Wenger.

"How for their fans can they sell one of their best players in the middle of the season when they are in an excellent position?"
