Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has warned Blues fans not to expect a revolutionary winter window transfer period, despite losing four players due to the 2010 African Cup of Nations.
The Stamford Bridge side will be without Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou (both Ivory Coast), Michael Essien (Ghana), and John Mikel Obi (Nigeria), yet Ancelotti has alluded to the possibility of promoting academy players into the senior set-up in order to compensate for the loss of the aforementioned quartet.
Speaking to Il Giornale, the Italian tactician said: "If there are no injuries we are determined not to change the composition of the squad."
He continued: "There are two strikers going to the African Cup of Nations, Drogba and Kalou. But right behind them we have two boys with a great future, [Daniel] Sturridge and [Fabio] Borini."Borini is a very, very, very interesting 19-year-old from Bologna."
Furthermore, Ancelotti hailed his predecessor Guus Hiddink for paving the way forward with the club's fitness programme.
The former AC Milan coach also joked about how prior to his appointment there was an unsatisfactory amount of training dedicated to tactics; he claimed the English were "allergic" to such sessions. "I’ve gone for the very same fitness routine introduced by Guus Hiddink, without the slightest change. It’s a routine that has drastically reduced the number of injuries over the last season. "I’ve only increased the tactical training sessions, something the English are usually allergic to."
